Chrome Toggle Repair

The third toggle from the repair shop was a Chrome Toggle, which has been replated.
I've not dismanteled a Chrome Toggle before, but they decided to send it anyway because they couldn't get it back together. When they did get it together the adjuster would jam up.

As usual, the first pic shows what arrived.

I naturally first tried to reassemble it and it did the same thing - assemble it without the spring it worked but without the click, with the spring it would jam. I know that trying to bend/tweak the spring, it would break, so that was not an option. It needed a new spring.

"Well" - Four (yes you read that right - Four) springs later and I managed to figure out one that would work. The top left spring in the image below is the original. Yes, you also guessed it - the head has to be assembled before you can see if it will both click and not jam. Each one of the springs below would do one but not the other.

The drama wasn't finished yet. When I was ready to put the Toggle itself back, the little pin shot out and after about a ½ hour of searching for it, I gave up and went to bed thinking that I would turn a new one the next night. The next morning as I sat down at my desk - I saw a little piece of something on the corner of my desk and thought - "how did I get so lucky...."
The only other issue is that the big spring is strong and will push the bottom collet out, so I also needed to add some crimp.

The middle picture below shows it in pieces with the spring that works correctly and the right hand picture shows it all back together in one piece.

This picture shows the complete set, razor, case with original blades, shipper, instruction book and warranty card - it is an awesome set.

This Toggle frustrated me at times, but I learned a lot and am very happy to see it back in one piece and all working properly.
And of course, this page would not be complete without the "Shave of the Day" picture.
