Parker Variant Open Comb
The Parker Variant is manufactured in India. The Original Version was released in 2016. This is their Open Comb Version which was released in late October 2023.
Other than the TopCap which looks like it has the same dimensions, all the other parts may look similar and even have similar dimensions - but they are new.
As the base-plate is an Open Comb, the lather holes are no longer. The ferrule that attaches the base plate to the handle is straight. The knurling on the handle is more aggressive and the twist knob has straight knurling which is "technically" correct considering the way it is used. Both these are improvements IMHO.
It's also a two-piece and is plated brass according to the literature, and the adjuster knob is held in place by a compression ring.
Last but not least - They come in two finishes, a Satin Chrome and a Graphite version. I opted for the Graphite version.
Like its sibling, it's pretty good value for money.

How does it shave?
Firstly let me say this - I've never really come to terms with the SB Version until I purchased the shorty.
I find this a little more aggressive than the SB version and that translates into a better and easier shaver. For me that means two things:
A - I can feel the blade, so I tend not to apply too much pressure and,
B - I get away with less passes.I typically get away with a WTG and a WTG shave, plus some touch-ups around the difficult area's.
For those that enjoy the SB version, this would probably compliment it as a pair for those days where there is more than a few days growth.
