Mergress
This is a Merkur Progress where the white plastic knob has been replaced with a stainless steel version.
There are guys that that don't like the plastic knob on the Merkur Progress and sometimes the numbers vs the indicator are out of sync.
In 2006, in stepped Eric "Mer" Maier, who "improved" the knob by adding a machined Stainless Steel adjustment knob and colored adjustment dots. He also re-calibrated the number dial (if needed), added crystals and also smoothed out the mechanism.
It's probably the most well known of the Merkur Progress conversions.
There were a few models available:
- Standard model - Standard Progress with a standard sized knob
- The XL Model - Standard length Progress with a Extra long knob
Then there were the bling models, which had four extra crystals in the knob itself - one in each of the recesses.
This one is the standard model.
When Merkur released their Metal knobs in 2026, I suspect that the market for these died.

How does it shave?
I haven't used it yet, however I suspect the following:
The balance is different, however the shave is like a Merkur Progress.
I'm pretty much repeating what was said on the current Merkur Progress page - They go from pretty mild to middle medium at 6. They then can be overclocked on the fly if more is needed.
Short version - Just like a Merkur Progress but slightly heavier.
