Davis Rythmic Razor
In my humble opinion, this is one of the coolest looking vintage razors. It was made in Glasgow, Scotland and patented in early 1936.
W.J.Davies was also granted a US Patent (number US2116190) on May 3, 1938 and a Canadian Patent (number CA376116) on 30 August 1938.
This is pretty much the full set, except for a few blades. The box is bakelite and there are moulded bits to hold the razor, the felt pad and the two blade boxes. The felt pad under the razor doesn't touch it, so I believe that it's there to catch any lubricant that may seep out.
It's a very unusual One-Piece razor. To load the blade you twist the bottom knob, that in turn causes the bottom plate to lower and rotate 90° so that you can load the blade onto it. Reversing the process rotates it back, pushes the blade upwards, flexes it and thereby giving it's rigidity. There is "sort of" a dial just above the TTO knob that you adjust and then you tighten the TTO knob against it, so repeatability is there albeit difficult to see with my ageing eyes. In order to adjust it the TTO knob has to be loose, so its not really "On The Fly".
Its not a razor that I can use on auto-pilot, I do need to take my time.
How does it shave?
There is a lot of blade feel, the audio feedback is very loud and it's a excellent shaver.
