Cooper Monobilt

Cooper Logo

The Cooper Monobilt hails from the early 1930's. Sold by the Cooper Safety Razor Corporation of Brooklyn, NY.

t was not designed to be an adjustable razor however the closing and locking design allows the top cap to be opened a full turn on the twist knob while still holding it in place.
Its a One-Piece with a hinged top cap that flips open. There is a 2-Jaw collet that grips a small ball. That in turn pulls and securely clamps the top cap closed. It's a completely different idea on clamping the blade in a one piece razor.

There are two patents on this razor. Both numbers are engrave into the underside of the base plate. The first, Patent number US1879900 was granted on 27 September 1932 and the second, Patent number US1980202 was granted on 13 November 1934. Both were granted to a George Hoffman of Boston, Massachusetts.

How does it shave?
After my first shave with it. I found it mild when fully closed and low aggressive when opened a full turn.
I ended up with a BBS after a 3Pass plus some buffing shave.
